Del Ray and Rosemont are hip Alexandria neighborhoods featuring a vibrant Main Street lined with independent businesses. Bustling Mount Vernon Avenue is packed with trendy places to eat and drink and hosts frequent street festivals. Rosemont has two Blue and Yellow Line Metro stops and both neighborhoods are within a short drive of several major highways.
Del Ray is a relaxed neighborhood with a small-town vibe and diverse housing options. Its real estate mix includes spacious early 20th-century single-family homes alongside bungalows and townhouses. Rosemont’s streets are shaded beneath mature trees, and much of the neighborhood is a nationally registered historic district. Real estate here mostly consists of stately Colonials built in the first two decades of the 20th century as well as newer townhouses and condominiums. Both Del Ray and Rosemont rank high among the most sought-after and expensive neighborhoods in Alexandria and the D.C. area.
Del Ray and Rosemont offer a laid-back neighborhood atmosphere with great local businesses and regular community events. Home to many young families and urban professionals, both neighborhoods are within easy reach of Old Town Alexandria and Washington, D.C.
Del Ray’s Mount Vernon Avenue is known as the place where Main Street still exists. This lively stretch is lined with one local eatery after another. The Evening Star Café serves classic Dixie dishes in a refined setting with patio dining. Above The Evening Star, No. 9 Lounge is a favorite nighttime hangout with specialty craft cocktails and a great beer selection. No. 9 Lounge often hosts live bands and DJs. Pork Barrel BBQ is the best spot in Del Ray for mouthwatering smoked meats. This restaurant’s delicious and very reasonably priced servings of pulled pork, sliced brisket, pulled chicken, and smoked turkey have earned it rave reviews and a loyal following among Del Ray residents. A few blocks from Mount Vernon Avenue, Northside 10 is a relaxed spot for classic American comfort food and craft beers. Northside 10’s specialties include Southern-style shrimp and grits and salmon risotto tossed with jumbo lump crab. Over in Rosemont, Grape + Bean is a fantastic option for both day and night. Stop by in the morning for a cup of freshly-roasted coffee or head over in the evening to enjoy an excellent selection of craft beers and wines from small producers. Grape + Bean also sells organic eggs, cheeses, milk, artisanal bread, ice cream, and wine by the bottle to take home with you.
Every month between April and September, the Del Ray neighborhood hosts a differently-themed First Thursdays event. These fun community celebrations involve the whole neighborhood and attract many visitors. The Del Ray Artisans Show sees the neighborhood’s best local gallery open its doors to the public during each First Thursday. Del Ray Artisans also offers a variety of exhibitions, workshops, and art classes. Del Ray’s Halloween Parade is a fun annual highlight. Around 7,500 people partake in the Halloween Parade in hopes of winning awards such as Best Pet Costume, Best Decorated Home, and Best Decorated Stroller. Rosemont is also home to some much-loved annual events. The community gathers together for celebrations such as a Fourth of July picnic and a Thanksgiving Day Turkey Trot.
Del Ray and Rosemont are served by the Alexandria City Public Schools District.
