Falls Church City is a small municipality with a lot to offer. This independent city covers a little over two square miles packed with a wide variety of bars and restaurants, exceptional schools, and numerous historical sites. These sites include the 1760s Falls Church, and where George Washington was once a vestryman. Falls Church City is located near the intersection of Virginia State Route 7 and U.S. Route 29, close to both the Capital Beltway and Route 66. The city has two stations on the Metro’s Orange and Silver Lines. Housing options range from classic Colonials and Craftsman properties to stylish contemporary single-family homes and condominium complexes.

Falls Church City offers a relaxed, small-town lifestyle within easy reach of Downtown D.C. In 2018, an analysis based on the United Nations’ Human Development Index named Falls Church City as the best area in the United States in which to live. This compact community has a very high walkability score and excellent transportation links to the capital. There’s always lots to do in the area, including watching live music at the State Theatre, dining on authentic Asian cuisine at the Eden Center, exploring Civil War trails, and whiling away an evening at a great selection of downtown bars and restaurants.

 

Dining, Entertainment & Shopping

Falls Church City features various shops, restaurants, and entertainment venues mostly clustered along Broad Street and the streets running off it. Liberty Barbeque is a laid-back spot to enjoy platters of delicious smoked meats alongside craft beers and cocktails. Stop by for daily discounts on specialties such as Korean-style beef bulgogi, fried chicken, trout filet, and grilled ribeye. Dogwood Tavern offers an upscale twist on a traditional tavern. Here, you can dine on elevated pub grub in a stylish space featuring exposed beams and a roaring fireplace. Dogwood Tavern also hosts weekend brunch specials and regular live music. Northside Social is a trendy combined bakery, coffeehouse, and wine bar. Start your day with a cup of coffee and a tasty pastry, stop by for a leisurely lunch, or head over in the evening for charcuterie platters, artisanal cheeses, and small specialty plates paired with a curated wine selection. At Seven Corners at the southeastern city limits, the Eden Center features more than 125 Vietnamese-American businesses. The Eden Center has more than a dozen Vietnamese restaurants and other eateries serving Korean BBQ, Mongolian hot pots, and Thai street food. You’ll also find bakeries specializing in banh mi sandwiches and Vietnamese desserts, cafés serving specialty teas and Vietnamese coffee, karaoke bars, Asian grocery stores, and a range of health stores and beauty services.

 

Things to Do

Services still regularly take place at the same Episcopal church that George Washington oversaw the building of in the 1760s. The Falls Church also features noticeable sections repaired and replaced after being damaged during the American Civil War. Falls Church City has many designated Virginia Civil War Trails where you can learn about this turbulent period in American history. The State Theatre is a top performance venue housed within a classic 1930s movie theater. This leading entertainment venue regularly hosts a diverse lineup of music and comedy performers. Falls Church City’s Memorial Day Parade is a large-scale annual celebration that includes a 3K fun run, live music, rides, and food vendors. The Tinner Hill Music Festival, formerly known as the Tinner Hill Blues Festival, takes place each June at Cherry Hill Park.
